WWDC 2020: tvOS 14 With 4K Support, New Home App, And Multi User Support Announced

tvOS 14 has announced by Apple with many long-awaited features and upgrades in the WWDC 2020 Keynote. The highlight of the tvOS 14 was the introduction of the brand new Home app experience which will be called “Home View”. Apple also announced there very new Apple TV+ service has crossed over 100 crore devices worldwide.

Home View

The Home View will be found in Control Center. For using Home View effectively, the user will need to have other Apple’s other home centric devices as well. The Home View also has picture-in-picture support which the user can use to check for people arriving at the doorstep while the user is watching TV. Moreover, even other camera feeds can be accessed directly onto Apple TV.

tvOS 14 PiP

The picture-in-picture mode is not limited to the Home View, as Apple also announced users can now view multiple videos at the same time using PiP. Also, AirPlay has also been given access to PiP support.

One of the biggest complaints of many Apple TV users, the absence of 4K support on Apple TV has been addressed as now with the tvOS 14 4K support for YouTube has also been added. Even AirPlay has been improved allowing 4K videos from iOS and iPadOS can be shown in full quality on Apple TV and can also be used in PiP windows.

tvOS 14 Door

The 4K support announcement wasn’t mentioned in the Keynote, but Apple has highlighted it on the Apple Website.

In tvOS 13 last year, Apple gained a new Control Center and multiple user support for Xbox One and Playstation DualShock 4 game controllers. The support is also extended to the Xbox controller as now Apple TV also works with Xbox Elite 2 and Xbox Adaptive controllers as well. But this time Apple has extended the Multiple User support for Arcade games as well.

tvOS 14 Multi User Arcade Games

This will allow multiple users to have their separate progress and arcade games. Also, every user can start their arcade games right from where they left. Moreover, users can also resume their Arcade games that they are playing on their iPhone or iPad directly to the Apple TV as well.

Apple has also announced the Audio Sharing feature on Apple TV devices that also works with AirPods.
