WWDC 2020: iOS 14 With App Library, Redesigned Widgets, App Clips Announced

At WWDC 2020, Apple announced its next-generation operating system namely iOS 14 for the supported iPhone lineup. After years of wait, Apple has finally redesigned the overall appearance of the iPhone. Moreover, many Android exclusive features have been added to iOS 14.

So here’s everything you need to know about iOS 14 accompanied with a list of supported smartphones and beta release date.

1. App Library

App Library

The first major on the list is App Library. As its name suggests, App Library automatically groups all of your applications in small groups making them easy to access and organize. This nifty feature will also clean the clutter on the home screen. The App Library can be found at the end of application pages. The bigger sized app icons in a group can be directly launched. On the other hand, the smaller ones can be launched by opening the group.

Additionally, every single Apple arcade game will also be stored in a single group.

2. Redesigned Widgets

Next on the list are redesigned widgets. At last, you can now move the widgets to different app screens. Furthermore, based on your preference you can even customize their size and functionality. Apple has also announced the new “widget gallery” which will showcase all of your widgets at one location.

Lastly, there’s a “Smart Stack” widget which displays the most relevant widget based on your usage pattern and the time of the day.

3. Picture-In-Picture Videos

Picture-In-Picture videos have been in existence on Android for many years now. Luckily, this nifty feature is now available on iOS. As you might know, you can use this feature for playing videos while doing other important tasks on your smartphone. Similar to Android, based on your preference you can move the video playback screen and even adjust its size.

4. App Clip

 App Clip

App Clip is another great feature that will help you to launch card-based snippets of apps without even opening them. You can access and use certain features of an application using App Clip. You can trigger App Clips using a visual QR code or NFC. In simple terms, App Clip will eliminate the need of downloading the full-fledged application. Using this feature you can only download a certain part of an application on your device and use it.

5. Enhanced Siri

With the advent of iOS 14, Siri is also receiving a visual overhaul. After the new update, Siri won’t take over your whole screen for answering your queries. Rather, it will occupy a smaller area in the bottom part of your display. Using Siri you can now even dictate and send voice-messages.

In addition to Siri, new features have also been added to the messages and maps application. Lastly, Apple has also introduced a new translation application that presently supports 11 different languages and even works offline.
