The most ‘delicate’ or ‘risky’ part of any foldable smartphone is the hinge and the display along the hinge of the device. The Mi Mix Fold is said to have been tested for about 200,000 bends in reliability testing and up to a million bends in extreme reliability testing. The inner display also supports Dolby Vision standards, has a DCI-P3 color gamut, and a contrast ratio of 4,300,000:1.
The Mi Mix Fold runs on the Android 10 based MIUI 12 and is powered by the Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with Adreno 660 GPU. It also has up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Xiaomi has also included a butterfly-type cooling system having a VC liquid cooling, thermal gel, and multilayer graphite sheets, along with other heat dissipation methods.
Now coming to the camera sensors onboard the foldable smartphone, it has a triple camera setup on the back. The primary camera is a 108-megapixel Samsung HM2 sensor having an aperture of f/1.8. Another highlight of the Mi Mix Fold is the Surge C1 ISP technology that it incorporates. The technology is said to be in development for the last couple of years. It also brings an improved 3A algorithm and low-light focus capabilities to bring more accurate autofocus, auto-exposure, and auto white balance over the competition.
Apart from the Surge C1 ISP technology, the Mi Mix Fold also uses Liquid Lens technology. The technology is claimed to make use of the principle of human eye bionics and forms a lens-like structure with a transparent fluid wrapped in film. The phone also has a high-precision motor to change the radius of the spherical surface’s curvature to offer up to 3x optical zoom, up to 30x telephoto, and a minimum focus distance of three centimeters.
The connectivity options on the smartphone include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, and a USB Type-C port. The phone also has an in-display fingerprint reader. It also makes use of quad speakers tuned by Harman Kardon while being powered by Xiaomi’s own quad-speaker algorithm. The company claims this brings 3D spatial audio field playback.
The foldable smartphone also comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass protection at the back with a ceramic texture. The company has also launched a special Mi Mix Fold Ceramic Special Edition which is basically the same smartphone having a gold middle frame and volume buttons along with having a black ceramic back with special laser engraving.
To run the two displays of this smartphone, it houses a dual-cell 5,020mAh battery with support for 67W Fast Charging. The phone is claimed by the company to be fully charged in about 37 minutes. The unfolded phone measures 173.27×133.38×7.62mm and 173.27×69.8×17.2mm when folded. The phone measures 317 grams, while its Ceramic Special Edition weighs 332 grams.
