Along with the launch of Xiaomi Mi 11, the Chinese giants also announced the MIUI 12.5, the official UI for all Xiaomi-Mi smartphones. Despite the MIUI 12 being launched just in April earlier this year, the latest update to the UI with a new name itself is claimed to be faster and more economical than before.
The company also says the UI update will help overall performance since the memory usage is reduced by 20% and the background memory usage is less by an average of 35%, and the system application power consumption decreased by an average of 25%

MIUI 12.5 Features
Xiaomi claims the UI has received a massive overhaul from the previous UI. In terms of system operations, the UI is designed to consume up to 32 percent less memory and also provide a 17 percent decrease in power consumption. The new UI also will be optimizing memory usage in core scenarios by up to 20 percent. It will also optimize system apps and deliver much better graphics rendering than the previous UI.
Amongst the additional features introduced, the one that tops the list is animated Super Wallpapers. The added wallpapers include Snow Mountain and Geometry to complement the already existing collection of Super Earth, Super Mars, and Super Saturn wallpapers. The company has also claimed that these wallpapers will consume 40 percent less power than before.
The new skin from Xiaomi also adds additional nature-inspired sound effects. The new UI will add sounds from the Amazon and the African jungles, as well as the Arctic ice dessert. There are also massive improvements in haptics and notification sound effects according to the company. A new motion effect architecture has been added to provide an improved animation experience. In this OS thanks to the integration of tactile library, an enhanced immersive touch has also been introduced.
Additional interface changes in the MIUI 12.5 include the introduction of floating windows. These windows allow the users to quickly respond to a message or even look at maps without leaving the active screen. There is also new animation on the home screen in the form of new ‘Ripples’ animation for newly downloading apps and a ‘Burst’ animation for uninstalled apps.
A huge concern for several MIUI users is the privacy measures on the UI. This seems to have been addressed by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer. The changed and updated privacy measures bring the feature of a prompt as a popup whenever an app attempts to access your clipboard data. Users can give access or decline. Another new security feature includes allowing apps to get an approximate location instead of the exact location of the device. Both these features were introduced in iOS 14.
The new UI from Xiaomi also comes with Sandbox support. This feature can be used to isolate photo albums and private information from being accessed by third-party apps. User’s webpage behavior will also be tracked and recorded to highlight and inform the users about the websites that can potentially steal data.
Another massive complaint from MIUI users was the presence of bloatware and several pre-installed apps ruining the user experience. Xiaomi has not only addressed the issues but has reportedly even made it better than some of its peers. The company says the MIUI 12.5 has no bloatware and also fewer pre-installed apps. Changes have also been made in Xiaomi Health services and Mi Cloud to provide an improved experience.
Xiaomi has also introduced MIUI+ with this UI update. MIUI+ in work is just like Microsoft’s Your Phone App. It allows users to integrate their Xiaomi smartphone with any Windows PC. Once linked, users can view text messages, notifications, photos, and a lot more present on their phone directly on the PC. Users can also access their phone’s clipboard data and some apps on the screen of their PC.
