43 Chinese Apps Banned By Government Of India: Complete List Of The Banned Apps Here

As many as 43 Chinese Apps have been banned by the Government of India. The banned apps have been said to ‘prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order’ and hence banned under section 69A of the Information Technology Act.

This comes after the government’s decision to ban TikTok and 58 other apps followed by another 118 apps including PUBG were also banned in the country.

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India today issued an order under section 69A of the Information Technology Act blocking access to 43 mobile apps. This action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued the order for blocking the access of these apps by users in India based on the comprehensive reports received from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, Ministry of Home Affairs. Earlier on 29th June, 2020 the Government of India had blocked access to 59 mobile apps and on 2nd September, 2020 118 more apps were banned under section 69A of the Information Technology Act. Amongst the 43 Chinese Apps Banned include popular shopping websites AliExpress, Alibaba Workbench, and Snack Video (a very popular TikTok alternative). This list of banned apps includes 4 apps from the Chinese e-commerce giants Alibaba coming in as another setback for the company after ANT group IPO was shelved in both Hong Kong and Shanghai markets.

The banning of Chinese apps by the Indian government started after tensions rose between the Indian and Chinese military after a violent clash that killed 20 Indian troops along with several undisclosed numbers of Chinese army men as well.
