Almost a week ago, the Government Of India banned 59 Chinese applications including the famous short-video platform TikTok. Thanks to the demise of TikTok many new video-sharing social networking services have recorded drastic increments in their popularity. In an urge to acquire, the more than 250 million user base of TikTok in India, Instagram has started testing it’s new alternative to TikTok namely Reels.
As you might know, Instagram rolls out new updates in phases. Consequently, a user might get access to the latest updates and new features but one may not. So here’s everything you need to know about Instagram reels.
Instagram Testing Reels In India
Unlike TikTok, Reels is not a standalone application. Rather it comes integrated within Instagram. It is worth noting that, Reels is by no means a new feature. Instagram Reels has been in existence since 2019 but it was only available in limited international markets.
Similar to TikTok, using Instagram Reels users will be able to create short 15-seconds long videos by using a catalogue of available music and songs. Additionally, users can also use self-generated audio clips or the ones created by other users to make such videos. Moreover, reels will allow users to adjust the speed of their videos. Instagram Reels can also be directly shared as a post on the user’s profile.
Similar to Boomerang and Zoom, Reels will have a dedicated tab. In the explore tab of the official Instagram application a new section namely Top Reels will be available soon.
Lastly, in addition to India, Instagram Reels are also being tested in other countries like France and Germany.
There’s no denial in the fact, that Instagram is one of the leading social media platforms in India. As a result, it won’t take much time for popular TikTok creators to migrate and create content on Instagram as they already have a fairly large audience on Instagram.
