Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge Launched By PM Narendra Modi [Update: Deadline Extended after Great Response]

[Update: July 18, 2020] The Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge has received an overwhelming response according to the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY). This has made the ministry to extend the deadline for submission of App until July 26.

Given the enthusiastic response to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge, the government has decided to extend the last date of submission of entries to the challenge to July 26, 2020. The challenge is hosted on the Innovate Portal of MyGov.

The challenge received as many as 2,353 entries across all the categories. There were 8 categories for submitting the apps and maximum entries have been in the Social Networking category.

The responses in all the categories are 414 social networking, 339 e-learning, 286 health, and wellness, 238 office and work from home, 136 games, 96 entertainment, and 75 under the news segment.

[Earlier: July 4, 2020] For all the technical specialists, PM Narendra Modi has launched an Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge. The challenge invites the techies and start-ups across the country to create apps as part of ‘Made In India’ Apps.

Interested individuals and teams can participate by registering at this Link using their phone number or email address. The Government has also said that the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for the app will always remain with the applicant. PM Narendra Modi also tweeted as well as put up a LinkedIn post calling all the tech enthusiasts across the country to participate in the contest.

The apps can be made into 8 different categories:

  1. Office Productivity & Work from Home
  2. Social Networking
  3. E-Learning
  4. Entertainment
  5. Health & Wellness
  6. Business including Agritech and Fintech
  7. News
  8. Games

Apart from these 8 major categories, there are various other subcategories for creating apps as well. The Top 3 finishing participants in each major category will win 20 lakhs, 15 lakhs, and 10 lakhs. While in each subcategory the top 3 finishing participants will win 5 lakhs, 3 lakhs, and 2 lakhs.

Today, when the entire nation is working towards creating an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, it is a good opportunity to give direction to their efforts, momentum to their hardwork and mentorship to their talent to evolve Apps which can satisfy our market as well as compete with the world.

The move comes after the Government’s decision to ban 59 Chinese Apps from Google Play Store and iOS App Store. The Government is encouraging more Indian apps as part of the move to boycott Chinese products and apps in the country.

The last date for submission of entries for the app and the team is 5:30 pm 18th July. The final announcement for the winners will take place on 7th August. For more details, the applicants can check the website for this challenge.
