IRCTC Update: Aadhaar Authentication Mandatory for Tatkal Train Ticket Booking from July 1, 2025

Starting July 1, 2025, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will implement a new rule requiring Aadhaar authentication for all users booking Tatkal train tickets via its website and mobile apps. This move aims to enhance verification and streamline the Tatkal ticket booking process.

Who Will Be Affected?

Only users who have successfully completed Aadhaar authentication will be allowed to book Tatkal train tickets through the IRCTC website (www.irctc.co.in) and the IRCTC Rail Connect Mobile App.

Steps to Authenticate Your IRCTC Account with Aadhaar

To continue booking Tatkal tickets without interruption, users must link their Aadhaar to their IRCTC account before July 1, 2025. Follow the steps below to complete the process:

Step 1: Log In

• Visit the official IRCTC website or open the IRCTC Rail Connect Mobile App.
• Enter your IRCTC User ID and log in.

Step 2: Go to “My Account”

• Navigate to the “My Account” section after logging in.

Step 3: Authenticate Your Aadhaar

• Click on the “Authenticate User” link.
• Follow the on-screen instructions.
• Ensure your Aadhaar-linked mobile number is available to receive the OTP for verification.

Why It’s Important

From July 1 onwards, unauthenticated users will not be able to book Tatkal train tickets, potentially missing out on urgent travel plans. IRCTC urges all users to complete the Aadhaar authentication process at the earliest for a seamless booking experience.
