Qualcomm’s latest upcoming premium chipset, the Snapdragon 895/898 SoC that will be powering the flagships of several flagships of different companies has been leaked. Until the Snapdragon 888 SoC, Qualcomm was consistent in naming its chipsets.
The current flagship chipset launched back in December last year broke the chain and pattern of Qualcomm. The chipset was supposed to be called “Snapdragon 875” but instead was named “Snapdragon 888”. Qualcomm said that they did so since “888” is considered a lucky number in China. And so they decided to make this change in the naming of their chipset.
This change made the naming more unpredictable and hence guessing the name of the SoC more uncertain. But going by the latest report from Chinese social media and Evan Blass (@evleaks), the chipset will be named SM8450 and commonly called Snapdragon 895/898. The chipset is also claimed to be making use of the X65 baseband.
Snapdragon 895/898 SoC Technology And Features
The chipset is likely to make use of the Kryo 780 CPU core that is based on ARM Cortex v9 technology. It will also be having Adreno 730 GPU based on the leaks. It is also likely to make use of Spectra 680 ISP for image processing. The processor will also support Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.

The chipset also supports up to a 1GHz millimeter-wave downlink along with a 400MHz Sub-6 D rate. It is also claimed to support Qualcomm Aqstic WCD9380/WCD9385 audio codec and make use of Qualcomm Security Processing Unit (SPU260).
Qualcomm is also rumored to include the Adreno 665 Video Processing Unit (VPU) along with the Adreno 1195 Display Processing Unit (DPU). The processor that will be powering the flagships will also support the four-channel package LPDDR5 RAM. It will also support Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 subsystem.
Snapdragon 895/898 SoC Expected Launch And Competition
The chipset will be launched in December, the usual Qualcomm timeline. The processor will be competing with the likes of Samsung and Google. Samsung had announced its partnership with AMD to produce its Exynos chips based on the RDNA architecture. Google is also in the works to manufacture its Whitechapel chip that will be powering the Pixel 6 series smartphones.
There is still no information on which phones will be using this chipset. But since most flagships are powered by Snapdragon chipset so the same can be expected.
