Apple has finally announced Apple AirTag a Tile-like circular item tracker that can exclusively work on the company’s software and services. It can be used for tracking items like keys or wallets. The accessory from Apple is just like Samsung’s SmartTag launched earlier this year.
The device is a puck-like device that has a built-in speaker, accelerometer, Bluetooth LE, and a user-replaceable battery. The device also has an NFC tap that can be activated the lost mode on the device.
Users can set it up such that they receive notifications when they are separated or away from their attached item. The device can automatically be found on Apple’s Find My app. The app can also be configured such that it plays a sound on the tracker when the user is trying to find or locate the item. The moment AirTag and the item is out of Bluetooth range of the smartphone then the Find My network can help track it down.
The Apple AirTag comes with Apple’s U1 chip making use of Ultra Wideband technology, sound, and haptic feedback in order to guide the users more precisely to the location where the item is located.
Apple has also made it clear that the AirTag does not store any location data or location history inside the physical device. The company also made it clear that the device makes use of end-to-end encryption for the communications between an AirTag and the Find My network app on the smartphone.
The device comes in a small, round, and lightweight structure made up of precision-etched polished stainless steel. The device is also IP67 water- and dust-resistant. The device comes with a removable cover that makes it easier for users to replace the battery.

Apple also allows users to customize AirTag with free engraving, including text and a selection of 31 emoji. This can be done when the device is purchased through Apple Store App.
Apple will also be launching a wide range of accessories including the Polyurethane Loop, and the Leather Loop and Leather Key Ring to attach it to the device other than simply keeping it inside the bag or any other item.
