Jio has taken the telecom market by storm ever since its launch in the year 2016. And in the past few months, Jio had indicated it is preparing to launch an Android smartphone. The phone is expected to be launched carrying a price tag of about Rs. 4,000. The highly competitive pricing is likely to make it compete with the Chinese smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo, and so on that rule the Indian market.
Jio has previously launched a feature phone in the Indian market but it failed to impress the masses. But the launch of an Android phone from Jio may make the brand the go-to choice in the budget smartphone sector.
Reliance Industries, and Jio Platforms in particular, deserve a good deal of credit for India’s digital transformation. The pace and scale of digital transformation in India is hugely inspiring for us and reinforces our view that building products for India first helps us build better products for users everywhere. Google is proud to invest ₹ 33,737 crore into Jio. I am excited that our joint collaboration will focus on increasing access for hundreds of millions of Indians who don’t currently own a smartphone while improving the mobile experience for all.
Sundar Pichai, Google CEO
