Update (July 15, 2020): In an interview between OnePlus CEO Carl Pei and the YouTuber MKBHD, Pei has revealed many new details about the design of the OnePlus Nord
The OnePlus Nord will feature a flat display with tapered edges at the back. The display will have a dual-camera punch-hole cut-out. While the quad-camera setup at the back in a vertical layout as in the OnePlus 8 series phones. The phone will be launched in 2 color variants. The color options for the phone will a Teal colored and grey-ish color variants.
The phone will also not be having any official IP rating. However, Pei did say during manufacturing, the phone was designed such that it can tolerate 30cm of water for about 30 seconds. This does mean it will be able to withstand a few splashes of water.
Also, OnePlus is also going to release OnePlus Buds the first truly wireless earphones from the company alongside the OnePlus Nord on July 21.
The phone is available for Pre-Orders from today via Amazon India.
Update (July 8, 2020): Like we earlier said OnePlus is known to tease its devices in the devices leading up to the launch. OnePlus has hinted in their Instagram post that the device may come in four different colors. And if rumors are to believe, the four colors include the bright blue, mint green, black, and grey color.
Moreover, OnePlus Nord appeared on the Romanian retailer evoMAG.ro where the phone was priced RON 2,229.99 (approx Rs. 39,000) for the 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage variant. But this equals to about $536 against the earlier claims from the manufacturer that the phone will be priced at under $500. It does raise questions on the accuracy of the listing on the Romanian retailer.
Another leaked reports claim the phone to feature a Quad-camera setup with 48-megapixel primary camera against the Triple-camera setup as claimed earlier with a 64-megapixel primary sensor. Although OnePlus Co-founder Carl Pei did say that the OnePlus Nord will come with a “flagship camera” experience, which may imply that they use the same sensor in place in the OnePlus 8 series devices.
Update (July 7, 2020): OnePlus has officially confirmed that the OnePlus Nord will launch on July 21. OnePlus also announced the launch event as reported, to be an AR launch event. The event will be through the OnePlus Nord AR app which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for Android users and through the App Store for iOS users.
OnePlus also announced that the phone can be pre-ordered from July 15 via Amazon. But the interested customers will have to pay Rs. 499 to pre-book the smartphone. They will receive a gift box that will contain limited edition OnePlus merchandise.
OnePlus Nord has been in the news for quite some time now, especially since the launch of OnePlus 8 and One Plus 8 Pro in late April earlier this year. But last week OnePlus confirmed the name of the budget device will be OnePlus Nord and now on the Amazon India page in the teaser for the phone they mentioned the phone to launch on July 21. The page was however been taken down soon after.
The naming of the phone was a subject to a lot of discussions earlier but just last week OnePlus officially announced the phone will be called OnePlus Nord. Apart from that, the only officially confirmed details about the device is that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 765G processor.
OnePlus is known to launch in devices in a very unique manner and the Nord won’t be any different as it is expected to be a special AR Launch Event. To take part in the launch the URL: nord.oneplus.com/NordAR was also shared on the Amazon India page. The page also mentioned the phone to be “world’s first AR smartphone launch” and “Made to be experienced 21st of July”.
However, Carl Pei, Co-Founder of the company did confirm the smartphone will be launched initially only in Indian and European markets. Also, the phone won’t be launched in the USA anytime soon.
OnePlus did recently released a teaser for the OnePlus Nord which partially showed how the device will look like. Although, one thing that certainly was known from the teaser is the fact that the device will be having a multi-camera setup on the back located at the extreme left of the device.
The phone has been expected to be priced at under $500 (Rs. 37,000) and be a new budget phone to be launched for the first time by the company.
OnePlus often teases the specifications and pricing of the device in the days leading to the launch in order to build the hype before the official launch, so stay tuned to know any latest developments.
