Nubia Red Magic 5S With 144Hz Refresh Rate, 55W Fast Charging and Snapdragon 865 SoC Gaming Smartphone Launched

Nubia has launched the latest smartphone in its gaming devices range. The Nubia Red Magic 5S comes as the upgrade to the Nubia Red Magic 5G Lite launched earlier this year. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 865 SoC. It also has 144 Hz Refresh rate AMOLED display, 5G support, and 55W Fast charging support. For enhancing the gaming experience, the phone also comes with IC shoulder buttons and an upgraded cooling system in place.

Nubia Red Magic 5S Specifications and Features

The Nubia Red Magic 5S features a 6.65-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,340 pixels) AMOLED display. The display has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, a refresh rate of 144Hz, and a 240Hz touch response rate. The screen also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass protection and a 388 PPI density. Another interesting specification of the display is the TUV Rheinland certification and automatic brightness adjustment setting of up to 4,096 levels.

The device is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC with a maximum clock speed of 2.84Ghz. The GPU in the device is Adreno 650. The phone has up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. But the storage isn’t expandable as there is no microSD card slot.

Nubia Red Magic 5S has a triple camera setup on the back. The primary camera on the phone is a 64-Megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/1.8. Other camera includes an 8-Megapixel ultra-wide sensor with a 120-degree field of view and a 2-Megapixel Macro camera sensor. On the front, the phone has an 8-Megapixel camera.

When it comes to connectivity, the phone has  5G, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.1, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C, and also a 3.5mm headphone jack. The gaming phone has an in-display fingerprint scanner. Other sensors on the device include an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, a gyroscope, a magnetometer, and a proximity sensor. The phone also has a dedicated connector for Ice Dock.

Since it is a gaming phone, the Nubia Red Magic 5S has various gaming-centric features such as Nubia’s proprietary ICE 4.0 system. It combines both thermal as well as air cooling to reduce the heat generated in the device. There is also a centrifugal fan with a silver-plated heat sink for cooling. The phone also has an L-Shaped Liquid Cooling Tube to release heat from many different internal components.

The phone runs on a 4,500mAh battery with Nubia’s 55W Air-Cooled Fast Charging support. The charging is claimed to provide 56% charge in just 15 minutes and fully charge the device in 40 minutes. When it comes to dimensions, the phone measures 168.56x78x9.75mm and weighs 220 grams.

Nubia Red Magic 5S Pricing and Availability

The Nubia Red Magic 5S has been priced starting at CNY 3,799 (approx Rs. 40,600) for the 8GB RAM + 128 Gb storage variant. The 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant’s price has been set at CNY 4,399 (approx Rs. 47,000) and the top model having 16GB RAM + 256GB storage model at CNY 4,999 (approx Rs. 53,400).

The phone comes in two color options- the Ice Wind Silver and Cyber Neon options. The Ice Wind Silver color option isn’t available for the 16GB variant and the Cyber Neon option will be available only for the 12GB and 16GB RAM variants.

The phone will go on sale in China starting from August 1. The Global launch and pricing of the phone haven’t been revealed yet.
