Founded by Pete Lau (CEO) and Carl Pei in December 2013, OnePlus started my manufacturing flagship killer smartphones that offered an exceptionally high price to performance ratio. Seven years later, OnePlus is now one of the leading smartphone manufacturers, and the Chinese tech giant has entered the flagship smartphone market. The recently launched OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro are a clear indication that OnePlus has no plans of returning to the mid-range smartphone market.
That said, according to some reliable sources, OnePlus has been secretly working on a mid-range device. This mid-range smartphone might help OnePlus regain its lost popularity in the mid-range smartphone segment. The smartphone we are talking about might be named as the OnePlus Z.
So here’s everything you need to know about the OnePlus Z before it’s launch.

OnePlus Z: Design And Display
If you are a tech enthusiast, then you might be aware of a mid-range smartphone, namely OnePlus X, that was launched in 2015. This smartphone didn’t gain immense popularity as at the time of its launch, OnePlus was still focusing on flagship killer devices. That said, it was a fantastic device and truly ahead of its time. The complete glass and metal construction of that smartphone screamed premium.
The initial renders of the OnePlus Z released by Onleaks and 91Mobile showcase that the device will sport a premium construction. Similar to other OnePlus smartphones, even the OnePlus Z is expected to feature an alert slider. Sadly, OnePlus might also ditch the 3.5mm headphone port on this smartphone.
As of now, not much information is available about the actual display specifications of this smartphone. However, the same renders suggest that OnePlus might opt for a bezeless punch-hole display. Unlike the OnePlus 8 series, the punch-hole on this smartphone is expected to be at the upper centre part of the screen.
OnePlus Z: Processing Power, Camera And Battery
OnePlus would never want its mid-range smartphone lineup to impact the sales of the flagship offerings. Consequently, the OnePlus Z won’t be powered by the Snapdragon 800 series processor. This smartphone is expected to be powered by the mid-range Snapdragon 765G.
Despite being somewhat cheaper than the Snapdragon 865 processor, the Snapdragon 765G can effortlessly handle all sorts of resource-intensive tasks no matter what you throw at it. As a matter of fact, a user won’t notice any difference in the processing powers unless the two processors are compared side-by-side.
As far as storage on this smartphone is concerned, we can expect the base model to ship with 128GB storage while the higher-end variant might have 256GB of internal storage. It is worth noting that OnePlus Z won’t feature external SD Card support.
The initial renders suggest that OnePlus Z will sport a triple camera setup. This setup would consist of a wide-angle, an ultra-wide-angle, and a depth sensor for portraits. The megapixel count of this rear camera trio could be 48MP+16MP+12MP.
Lastly, OnePlus Z might have a 4,000mAh battery, and this smartphone might support 30W charging.
Pricing And Availability
The OnePlus Z or often referred to as the OnePlus 8 Lite might launch in the second or the third week of July. Not much information is available about the pricing of this smartphone, but we can expect this smartphone to launch in the $250 to $300 price bracket. The pricing of OnePlus Z would vary a lot depending on the location.
