On Thursday, Asus launched its first gaming smartphone, ‘Asus ROG Phone’ in India. The latest smartphone sports a full-HD+ Display, 8GB RAM, Snapdragon 845 SoC, IPX4 rating, gaming user-interface, cooling system and much more.

Alongside the smartphone, Asus also launched several gaming accessories for the smartphone which includes SUS Professional Dock, GameVice (Joystick), TwinView Dock, Desktop Dock and ROG Phone Case.

Top Highlights of Smartphone:

The main highlights of the smartphone are 90Hz display refresh rate, 3D vapour-chamber cooling system and ultrasonic AirTrigger touch sensors.

  • Asus ROG Phone price in India is Rs. 69,999 for the 8GB RAM/128GB internal storage variant.
  • Gaming Accessories prices are — Professional Dock at Rs. 5,499, GameVice (Joystick) at Rs. 5,999, TwinView Dock at Rs. 21,999, Desktop Dock at Rs. 12,999, ROG Phone Case at Rs. 2499.
  • The smartphone will be exclusively available for purchase via Flipkart starting November 29. The smartphone will come in Black colour.
  • Launch offers include No-cost EMI, Flipkart Complete Mobile Protection for Rs. 999 and an instant cashback of Rs. 5000 in form of 20 Rs. 250 vouchers only valid on Jio Rs. 509 plan which gives 4GB data per day.

Now coming to the specifications, Asus ROG Phone sports a 6-inch 90Hz AMOLED Display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 108.6% DCI-P3 colour gamut, 10000:1 contrast ratio and full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) resolution. It has 76.78 percent screen-to-body ration along with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Based on Android 8.1 Oreo on the top of ROG Gaming X mode UI, the phone runs on the 2.96GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 10nm processor with Adreno 630 GPU. It comes with 8GB RAM option. In optics, there is a dual rear camera setup, the first camera includes a 12MP Sony IMX353 sensor with f/1.7 aperture and the second camera includes an 8MP wide-angle sensor with f/1.8 aperture. The rear camera also supports OIS and EIS. On the front, there is an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The phone has LED flash on the back.

When it comes to storage, the smartphone comes with 128GB of internal storage. Connectivity suite of the smartphone includes 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C port. The sensors on board the handset are accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, compass, ultrasonic AirTrigger sensors and rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Asus ROG Phone battery capacity is 4,000mAh with the support of 30W Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0 fast charging. The handset is listed in Black colour, measures 158.8×76.2×8.6mm and weighs 200 grams.

The smartphones pack a lot of features which are listed below:

  1. The smartphone has a 3D vapour-chamber cooling system and also features a carbon pad and copper spreader for additional cooling.
  2. Detachable AeroActive Cooler for extra cooling.
  3. Side-mounted ports optimised for landscape mode and two programmable ultrasonic AirTriggers and advanced force-feedback haptics.
  4. Ultrasonic AirTriggers can be also used for non-gaming tasks, like instantly launching specific apps and activating functions like one-handed mode.
  5. TwinView Dock for the dual-screen handheld mode.
  6. Mobile Desktop Dock for desktop-style gaming and a Gamevice controller with WiGig Dock using 60GHz Wi-Fi for big-screen gaming.
  7. The AMOLED display comes with HDR visuals, a 90Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time.
  8. It is powered by a special speed-binned Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor clocked at up to 2.96GHz, paired with Qualcomm Adreno 630 GPU.
  9. It comes with IPX4 rating that confirms splash-resistant body.
  10. Asus Aura RGB lighting and Aura Sync support and ASUS HyperCharge direct-charge technology.
  11. Wireless streaming options like Miracast are rated at 500ms of latency
  12. It is WiGig-certified for 802.11ad 60GHz WiFi with both 2×2 MIMO and WiFi Direct. The side-mounted port also supports Gigabit Ethernet over Type-C, plus HDMI and USB.
  13. With 30W fast charging, it charges from 0 to 60% in just 33 minutes and get to 85% in just over an hour.
  14. Camera feature includes 1.4µm pixel size, 83° field of view, PDAF, 4-axis, 4 stops optical image stabilization, AI Scene Detection.
  15. Front Camera feature 84° field of view.
  16. It features Dual front-facing 5-magnet speakers with dual NXP 9874 smart amplifier, Hi-Res audio, DTS Headphone:X 7.1 virtual surround sound for headphone, Triple internal microphones with ASUS Noise Reduction Technology. It also has FM Radio.

It has enhanced cooling for the best performance, Dual speaker with Qualcomm smart amplifier, SD card slot and packs a 6,000mAh auxiliary battery.

GameVice (Joystick):

The Gamevice for ROG Phone connects directly to the phone with no pairing and features ultra-responsive real controls with zero latency. The Gamevice Live app on Google Play shows the games that work with the joystick.

The Mobile Desktop Dock lets you build a complete desktop around the ROG Phone, including hooking up a 4K monitor, Gigabit Ethernet, 5.1-channel speakers, and a stack of USB peripherals.

The SUS Professional Dock lets you connect your smartphone to a big-screen TV or monitor via the HDMI port for a cinematic gaming experience. It comes with a 60cm-long connector cable.

Author’s Opinion

The Asus ROG Phone is a premium smartphone which comes with a lot of convenience features. The waterproof body, quick-charging makes it one of the best device. The necessary features like configuration, storage and cameras are excellent. Overall, It is a power-packed smartphone with loaded features for gaming.

Talking about the competition in this price range, the real competitors of this smartphone are Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S9+, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Google Pixel 3 XL.

With this smartphone, Asus is targeting flagship smartphone segment. Being a gaming smartphone, the smartphone all other features that other smartphone in this range offer.

Overall, We recommend Asus ROG Phone to buy in this price range. However, at the time of writing this article, our first recommendation will be Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
