In a post on the OnePlus Forum founder Carl Pei said, “We’re excited for the future. As a tech startup, our goal is to push the envelope, look for new opportunities, and strive to perfect them. Virtual reality holds a monumental amount of potential. With cutting-edge technology, we can explore corners of the world like never before. We already know that VR will change the face of the entertainment industry, but we’re here to try something new.”
The post adds, “A VR launch lets you stand right next to our team and our fans as we unveil our new flagship. You’ll be able to look around as you check out the phone in a new way and maybe even find a few hidden Easter eggs. It’s a new way of thinking about a product launch. We aren’t talking at you; we are talking with you.”
Talking on the VR launch of the OnePlus 2, Pei said, “When we thought about doing this launch in VR, we wanted to make sure the viewing experience was simple and straightforward. We love the existing cardboard VR headsets, but we saw some room for improvement, and decided to design our own custom headsets. We spent a lot of time at the drawing board tweaking them until they were perfect. Our version is tailored perfectly to the One, as well as fast and easy to assemble. We didn’t cut any corners on production, and we’re definitely losing money on this. But, we want to share them with everyone. For an even closer look, be sure to check out our OnePlus Cardboard page.”
Announcing the launch, Pei said, “We can’t wait to launch the OnePlus 2 with all of you, together, on July 27. Check back in soon for more details on how to get your very own OnePlus Cardboard. We’ll see you at the launch!”
OnePlus also has a webpage for the Cardboard VR headset. You can read more about the VR headset and even get one for yourself for free.
