PM Modi launched e-RUPI, a cashless and contactless payment solution for digital payment in India on 2 August. This is an SMS string-based e-Voucher or QR code that will be delivered to the beneficiary’s mobile. Users of this one-time payment mechanism can redeem the voucher without any digital payment app, card, or internet banking access.
National Payments Corporation of India developed e-RUPI in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Department of Financial Services, and the National Health Authority. e-RUPI connects sponsors of this payment solution with the beneficiary and service providers. This will ensure payment after the transaction gets complete.
One can use e-RUPI to get services under the schemes for providing drugs and nutritional support. These schemes include TB eradication programs and Mother and Child Welfare schemes. You can also get drugs and diagnostics under schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, and Ayushman Bharat.
Private sectors will also be able to use these services as a part of their employee welfare and corporate social responsibility programs.
