JioMeet Video Conferencing App Launched in India: Alternative To Zoom?

On Thursday, Reliance Jio launched one of the most demanded services in this coronavirus pandemic i.e. a video conferencing service. JioMeet is a direct competitor to Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and many other video conferencing services.

Noticeably, this is the first Jio Ecosystem app launch after multiple investments on Jio Platforms.

The app supports both meeting options — 1-to-1 calling as well as multi-party video conference which can host up to 100 participants.

The app has many features like “enterprise-grade” host control options, HD quality video, schedule meeting, waiting room, password-protected meetings and up to 5 devices support simultaneously.

Users can seamlessly switch from one device to another and there is ‘Safe Driving Mode’ when a person is in travelling.

Anyone can signup using their mobile number or email ID in order to use the service. It is free for everyone and supports unlimited meetings.

The video conferencing platform comes with a simple interface which looks like a cloned version of Zoom (see below image). The app has similar features like screen share, record, etc. However, there is no time limit on JioMeet, unlike Zoom which has 40-minutes limit on free account.

JioMeet can work directly on supported browsers (Firefox and Chrome as of now). Other than browsers, it has apps for iOS, macOS, Android and Windows. (Download Here)
