MIUI 12.5 Launched: Top Features, Eligible Phones, Schedule And Lot More

Xiaomi has raised the curtains over MIUI 12.5, the latest skin from Xiaomi. This latest UI will be available for select phones already in circulation and will be the primary UI for top upcoming phones from the company. This skin was announced back in late December 2020 and was tipped to release for select devices from January itself but the rolling out of the skin has been delayed and will be starting from February 8, 2021. The company is saying the latest MIUI 12.5 will be much more efficient for the devices and also consume lesser battery at the same time.

Top Features In MIUI 12.5

System Efficiency

The latest UI from Xiaomi is said to make the overall usage of the phone much smoother and faster. The Operating System is claimed to consume less CPU usage and power consumption.

Xiaomi also tweeted saying the skin would make the system app’s CPU usage lesser by 22% and the power consumption from the system app’s would be down by 15%.

UI Changes

Xiaomi has also made several changes in the UI to make the user experience more visually pleasing. There are also few tweaks made to the UI design along with changes in the animation. On the home screen, Ripple animation has been added for newly downloaded apps and burst animation for uninstalled apps.

Apart from these, even new system sounds have been added. Xiaomi has introduced nature-inspired sounds which can be set as ringtones and message tones. The company says these new natural sounds are inspired by places in Amazon, Australia, the Arctic, and Africa.

New Wallpaper

Amongst the most visually noticeable changes in the MIUI 12.5 is the new breathtaking live wallpaper which the company is calling Mount Siguniang super wallpaper. The super wallpaper in the UI lets users change animation while unlocking the screen or swiping through pages on the home screen. An interesting part of this wallpaper is the fact that the time of day in the wallpaper changes based on the time of day for the user.

Introduction of MIUI+

This is the latest addition from Xiaomi for the integration of Windows 10 and MIUI. On the supported laptops, once the feature is enabled, users can receive all the happenings of their smartphone straight onto their laptops. Users can view phone notifications, open phone apps, quickly transfer files, seamlessly copy-paste text from their smartphone to laptop, view photos and screenshots on the system, and a lot more.

Although MIUI+ is part of the MIUI 12.5 China ROM and there is no information and clarity regarding the presence of this feature even in the MIUI 12.5 Global ROM.

New Notes App

Xiaomi has introduced an all-new default notes app which will also be having a new icon. Users can now make use of one of the four different drawing tools to create notes. The app has also been optimized for easy control. Xiaomi has also brought a quick access feature to make note-taking quicker and easier.

These new tools will help users in doodling and sketching. Apart from these features and tools users can now also create mind maps with complex structures.

Uninstallable System Apps

This time, one of the user’s biggest concerns, the excessive bloatware, and uninstallable system apps have been addressed by Xiaomi. With MIUI 12.5, users can remove much more system apps than ever before. users will be allowed to uninstall default apps such as Notes, Screen Recorder, Weather App, Scanner, Calculator, and more.

Privacy Changes

Xiaomi has also addressed several privacy issues of the users by introducing many privacy features in the latest skin from Xiaomi. Many of these introduced features are taken from Apple’s iOS privacy features.

Amongst the introduced features are users to get a prompt if apps are trying to access the clipboard data. The user will also have the option to accept or deny it. There is also a timeout after which it will automatically is denied.

Then coming to the location information, Xiaomi has also introduced the feature wherein users can now give an approximate location to the apps requesting it rather than giving out the exact location.

Just like the MIUI+, even the privacy features are part of the MIUI 12.5 China ROM and no information regarding the MIUI 12.5 Global ROM has been revealed so far from the company.


Timeline For MIUI 12.5 Rollout

Xiaomi has revealed that rolling out of the MIUI 12.5 will be done in two phases. The latest and most premium smartphones are part of the first phase of devices to get the update.
