Vodafone Idea Rebranded As ‘Vi’: Finally Completing The Merger

Vodafone and Idea announced the merger back in 2018 but finally, it got completed today after the two brands together will now be called ‘Vi’ (to be pronounced as We). The announcement was done through a live stream event earlier today. The brand has over 1 Billion 4G users in the country. This new name will very soon be updated from all its products such as SIM Cards, Hoardings, bills, Mobile App, websites, and more.

The two telcos have had several name changes over the years. Vodafone India was initially called Max Touch when it was introduced in the country. It was then renamed to Orange followed by Hutch before finally named Vodafone. When it comes to Idea, it first was named Birla AT&T which then became Birla Tata and AT&T. After which it finally was called Idea Cellular.

Vodafone Idea came together as a merged entity two years ago. We have since then focusses on integrating two large networks, our people, and processes. The rivals didn’t take long to introduce and welcome the newly branded telecom giant, as Reliance Jio tweeted greeting their competitor on completion of the merger.

In the live stream, Vi also announced ‘Happy Surprises’ initiative which will reward people when used the app. The users have to update the app first to obtain the benefits. Users have to then find the new Vi logo in the app to win rewards. Even mobile users can create and download customized Vi Tune using the updated Vi app or by logging on to myvi.in.
