Sony WH-1000XM4 Launched: A New Headphone King In The Market?

Sony has launched its latest premium wireless headphone, the Sony WH-1000XM4. The headphone comes as a successor to 2018 launched Sony WH-1000XM3 which ruled the market ever since it’s release. Sony claims that’s its latest offering comes with what Sony claims “The Best Ever Noise Cancelling Performance”. The headphones also come with many Smart Features to provide various functionality like never before.

Sony WH-1000XM4 Features And Specifications

The Sony WH-1000XM4 is an over the ear, closed wireless headphones. The headphones are said to provide a sophisticated style with exceptional comfort. The ear pads have super-soft, pressure-relieving foamed urethane evenly distribute pressure and increase ear/pad contact for a stable fit. They also have a powerful 1.57″ drivers, with Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) diaphragms with a frequency range of 4 Hz-40,000 Hz.

The most impressive feature of the headphone according to Sony is the Noise Cancellation. The headphone has a microphone inside each earcup which captures ambient noise and passes the data to Sony’s HD Noise-Canceling Processor QN1. The processor making use of the latest algorithm senses and adjusts to music and noise signals, as well as acoustic characteristics between the driver unit and ears, at over 700 times per second.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 also features Personal Noise-Canceling Optimizer and Atmospheric Pressure Optimizing technology. The Personal Noise-Canceling Optimizer is said to learn from the user’s habits and noise cancellation preferences and provide appropriate noise cancellation while the Atmospheric Pressure Optimizing is implemented especially for air travel to assist the users from all the problems faced before in using headphones during air journeys.

The headphones also include various smart technologies to perform based on what the user is doing. This feature coupled with Ambient and Adaptive Sound Control adjusts to what the user is doing.

According to Sony, there are pre-determined modes like Travelling, Walking, and Waiting. While travelling, the headphones will use block all the background noise for immersive music experience. While walking, the headphones automatically sense it block most noises while allowing some to make the user aware of the surroundings as well. Then there is waiting wherein apart from important announcements or so it blocks all the noise.

The headphones use Edge-AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology to process the audio file better to make the sound even better. It dynamically recognizing the instrumentation, musical genres, and individual elements of each song, such as vocals or interludes, it restores the high-range sound lost in compression for a richer, more complete listening experience.

Another interesting feature in the Sony WH-1000XM4 is ‘Speak-to-Chat’. By making use of the 5 microphones listens to whenever the user speaks and so automatically stops the music. This helps the user to engage in any conversation much quicker. Moreover, if the user doesn’t speak for 30 seconds it automatically resumes the music.

Also, the headphones are said to learn from the user. This is done by identifying the favorite locations of the user and plays music according to settings the user usually uses in those places. The headphones also automatically pause the music as soon as the headphones are removed. The music is resumed as the headphones are put back on.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 have several gestures and buttons for added functionality and let the user control the headphone without even using the phone. The user can tap on either side, long press, etc to stop and play music, attend calls, activate assistant, change volume, activate Ambient Mode, etc.

Sony claims the earpiece takes 3 hours to be fully charged. Upon one full charge, the headphones provide up to 30 hours of music playback with Noise Cancellation On and up to 38 hours with Noise Cancellation Off. Also, the headphone is said to provide 5 hours of playback with just 10 minutes of charging.

The headphones come with a carrying case, Headphone cable, Plug Adaptor for In-flight Use, and a USB Type-C cable for charging. The headphone features Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC Support.

Sony WH-1000XM4 Pricing And Availability In India

The Sony WH-1000XM4 has been launched by Sony for $349.99 (approx Rs. 26,240). They come in two color options- Black and Silver. Sony has, however, not launched the headphones in India yet. Also, the Indian pricing and launch date are unknown so far.
