EA Play To Launch On August 31: All You Need To Know

EA Play has been officially launched by Electronic Arts and will be available from August 31. The platform comes as a rebranding of what was earlier EA Access on consoles and Origin Access on PC. It will be launched on  Steam. The Origin Access Premier has also been renamed as EA Play Pro won’t be launched on Steam and stay exclusive to Origin.

The EA Play platform comes as a partnership between Electronic Arts and Valve which was officially announced last year in October. This massively widens the game library available on the platform as it merges the two platforms. This means popular games such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, FIFA 21, Unravel Two, Apex Legends, The Sims 4, and Battlefield V all on the single platform.

The partnership between EA and Steam happened back in 2018. And the announcement of this merged subscription took place in 2019.

EA had earlier stated the launch of this platform in Spring 2020 on Steam but this was earlier delayed and now is finally here. The partnership comes as a huge boost to both EA as well as Steam since this is first such subscription-based service on Steam.

EA Play will now be competing against the likes of Xbox Game Pass (available on Xbox and PC) and Uplay+ (PC-only). Moreover, this comes just days after Twitch Prime Gaming Membership was renamed and rebranded by Amazon as Prime Gaming.

Electronic Arts have revealed the pricing of the EA Play platform in India. It has been reported to cost Rs. 315 per month or Rs. 1,990 per year across all platforms. The service will bring in a ton of features and offers such as early limited time trials for upcoming games, access to the ‘vault’ having many games, and a 10 percent discount for any EA Digital purchase made by the user.

The Pro version of the subscription will cost Rs. 999 per month or Rs. 6,499 per year. In addition to the benefits provided as part of EA Play, the Pro version also offers unlimited access to select EA games.
