Blackberry To Launch 5G Android Smartphone With Physical Keyboard In 2021

In the past few years, TCL has helped Blackberry produces security-focused Android smartphones like the Blackberry Key 2. As you might know, Blackberry will end its business relationship with TCL on August 31, 2020.

However, a new Texas-based company that goes by the name OnwardMobility announced a partnership with BlackBerry and FIH Mobile. According to Peter Franklin, the CEO of OnwardMobility, the new Blackberry 5G Android Smartphone will be unveiled in 2021 and it will feature a physical keyboard. This new partnership will make OnwardMobility the fourth-generation licensee of the BlackBerry brand.

Blackberry 5G Android Smartphone With Physical Keyboard

As of now, not many details are revealed about the upcoming 5G Android smartphone from Blackberry. Initially, the smartphone will be launched in America and Europe. A subsidiary of Foxconn, FIH Mobile Limited will manufacture and handle the supply chain of the new blackberry branded smartphones. The first smartphone will be launched in the first half of 2021.

That said, Blackberry will launch more smartphones in the second half of 2021. Similar to the previous Blackberry smartphones, the major highlight of the new Blackberry smartphone will be security.

John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO of  BlackBerry stated that “We are excited that customers will experience the enterprise and government level security and mobile productivity the new BlackBerry 5G smartphone will offer.”

While analyst Jack Gold, President and Principal Analyst of J. Gold Associates said that “With 5G quickly coming to market, and the acceleration it will cause in upgrading mobile devices and deploying productivity-enhancing apps, deploying proven and highly secure products like the BlackBerry 5G devices in enterprises, government, and regulated industries like finance or legal, are mission critical.”
