Facebook Rebrands Instagram And WhatsApp

Facebook is one of the leading tech company with billions of users spread across the globe. It is worth noting that in addition to the Facebook social media platform the company Facebook also owns and operates Instagram and WhatsApp. Consquently, the two social media and one communication application that we use on a daily basis are all linked to each other and operated by Facebook.

A majority of users aren’t aware of the fact that Facebook purchased Instagram for $1 billion on April 9, 2012. Similarly, Facebook also purchased Whatsapp on 19 February 2014 for a price of $16 billion. Do note that Instagram wasn’t making much revenue at the time facebook purchased it but it’snow a $100 billion business.

Facebook has invested both time and a great number of resources to improve both Instagram and WhatsApp. Consquently, the company does want users to recognize it’s effort.

Facebook Rebrands Instagram And WhatsApp

Facebook has successfully rebranded both Instagram And WhatsApp. The update is rolling out slowly but sooner or later it will reflect on every android and iOS device. Presently, WhatsApp has been rebranded to “WhatsApp From Facebook” and Instagram has been rebranded to “Instagram By Facebook”. A user can see the rebranded name of Instagram in the about section of the application.

Similarly, once you open the read more section for WhatsApp on Google Play Store it clearly states the rebranded name “WhatsApp From Facebook”

Bertie Thomson, a Facebook spokeswoman stated that “We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook”. 

Facebook has been sued multiple times for lack of proper privacy and sharing of users information to third-party services. Rebranding Instagram and WhatsApp might end up being a wrong decision for Facebook as people may consider these services to be unsafe. A few reliable sources suggest that Facebook has plans to link these three applications and make an integrated messaging service by 2020.
