On Tuesday, Lenovo launched Lenovo K9 and Lenovo A5 in India at an event held in New Delhi. Both smartphones are priced under Rs. 10000 and the company is targeting budget users in India.

Both smartphones do not follow the latest trend of Notch Display and comes with significant bezels on the top & bottom.

  • Lenovo K9 — The main highlight of the smartphone is quad camera setup that is dual cameras at back and dual cameras at front. The other highlight is USB Type-C port.

  • Lenovo K9 price in India is Rs. 8,999 for the sole 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant.
  • Lenovo K9 will be exclusively available for purchase via Flipkart. The smartphone will come in Black and Blue colour options.
  • On the other hand, Lenovo A5 price in India is Rs. 5,999 for the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant and Rs. 6,999 for the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant.
  • Lenovo A5 will be exclusively available for purchase via Flipkart. The smartphone will come in Black and Fine Gold colour options.

Lenovo K9:

Now coming to the specifications, Lenovo K9 sports a 5.7-inch IPS LCD Display with 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ (720×1440 pixels) resolution. The smartphone has pixel density of 282ppi along with screen-to-body ratio of 74.78 percent. Based on ZUI 3.9 on the top of Android 8.1 Oreo, the dual-SIM (Hybrid Slot) phone runs on the 2.0GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 SoC with PowerVR GE8320 GPU. It comes only in 3GB RAM option.

In optics, there is a dual rear camera setup with 13MP primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 5MP secondary sensor. On the front, there is a dual camera setup as well, with 13MP primary autofocus sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 5MP secondary sensor. The phone has LED flash on the back as well as on the front.

When it comes to storage, the smartphone comes with 32GB of internal storage and microSD support up to 256GB. Connectivity suite of the smartphone includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack and more. The sensors on board the handset are accelerometer, proximity sensor, light sensor and fingerprint sensor on the back. The Lenovo K9 battery capacity is 3,000mAh. The handset is listed in Black and Blue colours, measures 153.8×72.9×7.9mm and weighs 155 grams.

Now coming to the specifications, Lenovo A5 sports a 5.45-inch IPS LCD Display with 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ (720×1440 pixels) resolution. The smartphone has pixel density of 295ppi along with screen-to-body ratio of 73.75 percent. Based on ZUI 3.9 on the top of Android 8.1 Oreo, the dual-SIM (dual Nano + microSD Slot) phone runs on the 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6739 SoC with PowerVR GE8100 GPU. It comes in 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM options.

When it comes to storage, the smartphone comes with 16GB/32GB of internal storage and microSD support up to 256GB. Connectivity suite of the smartphone includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, micro-USB port, 3.5mm audio jack and more. The sensors on board the handset are accelerometer, proximity sensor, light sensor and fingerprint sensor on the back. The Lenovo A5 battery capacity is 4,000mAh. The handset is listed in Black and Fine Gold colours, measures 146.8×70.8×9.8mm and weighs 160 grams.

Author’s Opinion

Lenovo K9:

The Lenovo K9 is a budget smartphone which looks promising with premium looks. The smartphone’s direct competitors are Realme 2, Realme 1, Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A. The features which differ it with competitors are USB Type-C and quad camera setup.

Overall, K9 can be considered in this price segment because of USB Type-C, quad camera setup and premium looks.

Lenovo A5:

The Lenovo A5 is a decent smartphone under 7K. The smartphone’s direct competitors are Yu Ace, Realme C1 and Redmi 6A. Apart from 4000 mAh battery, the smartphone doesn’t stand out in any department.

Overall, A5 is not a good buy looking at the competition. Realme C1 and Redmi 6A are much better.
