Facebook has just announced that it has made a major change in WhatsApp’s privacy policy. Its new Terms & Conditions announce that it will share some user data with Facebook – it’s parent company. This includes ad-targeting purposes on Facebook’s pages. The information shared will include a phone number which the user uses to verify their account & the last time the user used the service. That information, for those of you who are privacy concerned, is not something you share with a data mining tech giant.
However, users can partially opt-out from sharing the information, unfortunately, there is no way of totally opting out, aside from not using WhatsApp entirely; of course.
Existing users of WhatsApp will soon receive a notification update to the apps privacy terms & conditions. If you don’t want to share information with WhatsApp or Facebook, follow below steps:
- When you see the notification, don’t tap ‘Agree’, instead tap, ‘read’ which is highlighted in blue.
- You will then see a control at the bottom of the screen. If you do not want your account information shared with Facebook, you can uncheck the box.
- If you have already agreed to WhatsApp’s updated ToS & privacy policy, you will have an additional 30 days to make this choice by going to Settings > Account > Share my account info in the app. On doing so you’ll see the same control at the bottom of the screen, you can uncheck the box to opt out.
However, do note that Facebook will still receive plenty of information that you can’t deny them. If You have any query related to this then do comment below else reach our Facebook or Twitter page.
