Last year in September 2015, Google has announced that high-speed Wi-Fi would be installed at 400 train stations in India. The project finally began in January 2016 in Mumbai Central station and provided the public with free Wi-Fi.
Currently the free Wi-Fi service is available in 19 stations and has already been used by 1.5 million people. Google plans to service 100 stations by the end of 2016. Due to the poor connectivity in smaller cites, there is more demand for Google’s Free Wi-Fi services in Patna, Jaipur, Vishakhapatnam, than in larger ones.
Google said that the users on average, when in transit and in spite of being limited just to 1 hour of usage per day use 15 times more data than when they consume 3G because of the faster speeds.
