Reports are in that Google may soon launch its very own smartphone built by the company from scratch. This will make things even more competitive against Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy phones. Google is talking to mobile operators about a “Google-branded phone,” to be released by the end of the year.
According to Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS Insight, the mega company seems to be worried that Android is fragmenting and it needs to become a more controlled platform. He said, “I think they’ll seek to control it more, more like Apple.” Ex-president of Motorola, Rick Osterloh has been hired to lead the phone’s hardware division. However, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that they have no plans to manufacture Nexus phones, so this may be a completely new product altogether.
Please, if you’re reading this Google, don’t call it the gPhone.
