US Cinemas to Have ‘Texting Seats’

AMC Entertainment cinema chain’s CEO, Adam Aron says that he’s open to allowing people to text during movies. Aron said, “When you tell a 22-year-old to ‘turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie,’ they hear, ‘Please cut off your left arm above the elbow,’” He explained that it’s not possible to tell a 22-year-old to turn off their phone, “That’s not how they live their life.” Aron previously worked at Starwood Hotels and for the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and is new to the cinema business. He says that one option would be to allow texting only in certain rows, but it would only be useable in certain theatres and not all of them. The cinema & theatre industry have both had issues with patrons who simply refuse to turn off their phones. They’ve used catchy adverts and programmes to advocate the rule, but to little avail. Aron hopes that this method should do the trick.
