Mobile Internet Suspended in Jammu & Kashmir
On Thursday, mobile internet services in parts of J&K have been suspended after tensions prevailed when 4 people were killed by security forces? during agitations since Tuesday. Authorities say that the suspension is so that rumour mongering can be stifled. Curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in Kupwara, Kralgund, Handwara, Magam and Langate areas in north Kashmir. The agitations were struck after the alleged molestation of a girl by a soldier? in Handwara. However, when the girl was questioned she revealed that it wasn’t a soldier? who molested her.
Srinagar too has restrictions near 6 police stations after incidents of sporadic stone-pelting were observed. Separatist groups have also called for a strike and markets have remained closed. Public transport is also down.
